Year 10, Years 11 & 12, Electives and Certificate qualifications

Preparation for the senior school begins in Year 10. Students are encouraged to explore the options available and to consider what subject areas they want to experience in readiness for future study in Year 11 and 12.

Kingston Learning College (KLC) provides diverse opportunities and curriculum options for students aged from 14 ½ years to mature aged adults. Programs include Literacy and Numeracy courses, Year 10 studies, and varied pathways to achieve a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) through vocational and/or academic streams. Students benefit from a fast-tracked, flexible learning model, generally completing junior subjects in 6 months and senior subjects within 12 months.

Kick Start Program

The Kick Start Program focuses on Literacy and Numeracy development through vocational qualifications including certificates in General Education for Adults. This program provides intensive learning support and individualised instruction in a caring and supportive environment. Significant adjustments occur to cater for individualised learning needs and there is a genuine focus on student wellbeing and the development of communication skills necessary to assist with participation and learning.

  • Suitable for students from 14 ½ years of age and there is no upper age limit
  • Duration – 1 term to 1 year
  • 12 hours per week contact time
  • Intake throughout the year

Year 10 Bridge

  • Modified year 10 English and/or year 10 Mathematics
  • Duration - 6 months
  • 12 hours per week contact time
  • Intakes beginning of Term 1 and 3

Year 10 English and Mathematics

  • Duration - 6 months
  • 12 hours per week contact time
  • Intakes beginning of Term 1 and 3

Year 11 and 12 Subjects – choose from the following subjects and complete in 12 months

  • Essential English
  • Essential Mathematics
  • Sport and Recreation
  • Science in Practice
  • General English
  • General Mathematics
  • Psychology
